Join us on Friday, February 19th from 12-1PM EST for “Reflections on the Black Death: Rethinking the Medieval Plague during a Modern Pandemic,” presented by Dr. Brett Whalen and Dr. Cassandra Workman. In the era of COVID-19, the historical realities of past pandemics seem more present and vivid than ever. In this lecture, medieval historian Dr. Brett Whalen (UNC-CH) and medical anthropologist Dr. Cassandra Workman (UNCG) will reflect on the history of the Black Death, the famous fourteenth-century plague, and other historical pandemics and plagues, and how they might speak anew to us as we struggle with the coronavirus today. This is the first in our “The Historical Roots of our Time” series in partnership with the UNC Greensboro Department of History – keep an eye out for more in the series over the course of the semester!
